Google Art

Still Life with Apples, Paul Cezanne

This is so cool, I just had to share.

This morning, the Washington Post reported on Google’s new art project, conveniently titled Google Art Project (googleartproject.com). Somewhat like Google Earth, this art project allows viewers inside several of the world’s most famous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Gallery in London. But a tour of each museum isn’t all. You can also get a close look at several famous paintings, and when I say close, I mean close enough to see brushstrokes, cracks in the glaze and the texture of the canvas underneath.

Unfortunately, two of the biggest museums (and two of my favorite museums), the Louvre and the MuseĆ© d’Orsay, both in Paris, are not included. But the museums that are included are fabulous, and there are a large selection of works from each museum to choose from. Time to get up close and personal.
