Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have announced they will hold warring rallies on the Mall in Washington, DC on October 30. Stewart’s march, the ‘Rally to Restore Sanity,’ will meet Colbert’s ‘March to Keep Fear Alive’ in what I can only describe as a showdown of epic proportions.
These rallies, it seems, are in response to Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ rally (which I lambasted on this blog a little while ago). And given the severity of Beck’s particular brand of fear-mongering, I must say I greatly prefer Colbert’s creepy portrayal of Abraham Lincoln with a 360 degree rotating, laughing head. Colbert, you can fake scare me any day. And Stewart, your rationality makes my heart palpitate – but not too much. Just moderately enough.
